Laura Halzack grew up in Suffield, Connecticut and began her dance training at the age of four with Brenda Barna. She furthered her pre-professional training at The School of the Hartford Ballet and studied at the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in History from the University of New Hampshire in 2003. She then went on to study at the Hartt School and at The Taylor School before joining the world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company 2006. During her critically acclaimed 13 year career in the Paul Taylor Dance Company Mr. Taylor created 16 works on Ms. Halzack, most notably the Principal female role in his final masterpiece Beloved Renegade. Taylor also casted her in 67 of his other works, in over 80 different roles. Ms. Halzack has also performed with the Amy Marshall Dance Company, Syren Modern Dance, in the feature film The Chaperone, in Martha Graham’s Diversion of Angels, and in the original works of Larry Keigwin, Doug Elkins, Lila York, Doug Varone, Bryan Arias, Margie Gillis, and Pam Tanowitz. Dance Magazine has highlighted Ms.Halzack in its “On the Rise” and “Behind the Curtain” series, and featured her on its February 2018 cover. Recently retired from PTDC, Ms. Halzack is now a proud mother, an adjunct professor of dance at Pace University, a teacher at the Taylor School, a co-founder of the Asbury Park Dance Festival, and Artistic Director of LaHa Dance Group which she began in 2022.
Since forming LaHa Dance Group, Ms. Halzack’s artistic focus has been on her choreographic practice. With her group of dance artists, she hopes to create community through dance and share her works with as broad an audience as possible by making a diverse range of works. It is Ms. Halzack’s desire to to bring people together through the dance experience by presenting new work annually in and around New York City as well as in Universities around the country through new commissions, re-stagings, workshops and classes.
Ms. Halzack’s work has been presented at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage (2016), the Asbury Park Dance Festival (2022), the Shirley Project Space (2025) and at the Paul Taylor Studios in New York City (2023, 2024, 2025). She has also been commissioned by Alma College (2023), The George Washington University (2012, 2016, 2021) and Towson University (2024).
